Glasgow residents have voiced their frustration after the reopening of a public swimming pool has been delayed.
The pool at Glasgow Club Scotstoun was due to reopen in 'early in 2022' following a two-year closure.
Operator Glasgow Life has now pushed the opening back until June 'due to issues outwith their control'.
Posting on social media on Monday, they outlined that the refurbishment has been delayed due to the impacts of the pandemic.
The Scotstoun venue is one of the biggest leisure facilities in the city and is home to the National Badminton Centre, Scotstoun Stadium, and Scotstoun Squash Centre.
Glasgow Life announced in January 2020 that its pool would be closed for an 'extended period' with £2.8 million renovation work expected to take around nine months.
The pool was also closed for several months in 2017 to allow for a £750,000 refurbishment.
The latest update will include a new poolside health suite, more lockers and storage space, and a renovated changing village.
Locals voiced their frustration over the delay following the announcement that the reopening has been pushed back once again.
One person said: "This isn’t ok. The community has been without a pool now for nearly 2 and a half years. The opening dates keep extending and new excuses are found. Just be honest and say you aren’t prioritising it. I don’t know why you aren’t when Scotstoun is one of the Glasgow Club that makes money."
Another added: "What on earth is going on? It’s understandable that it might have been difficult to source some materials but this now seems like an excuse. Also it seems strange that often there might only be one person for example tiling a huge wall. Is it a financial issue? The excuses don’t ring quite true."
A former member said: "One reason I stopped paying for your club. Had ample time to get it done since you shut 2 years ago regardless of covid."
Questions were also raised about when saunas and steam rooms at Glasgow Life venues.
One person said: "Any idea when the saunas and steam rooms opening! We are paying for these services and centres being opened and they are being provided! Refund customers or discount should be provided!"
Glasgow Life has confirmed that there are currently no set dates for when saunas and steam rooms will reopen and work is still underway to make the facilities 'safe and functional again'.
A spokesperson said: "We told our customers that, unfortunately, due to issues outwith our control and that of our contractor, we have experienced several delays to the project and the pool in Glasgow Club Scotstoun will now reopen in early June 2022.
“The ongoing impacts of Covid-19, as well as the lack of material availability and delivery being felt worldwide, have resulted in delays to the refurbishment being carried out in the pool hall.
“We understand this is disappointing for all users and apologise for the inconvenience. Please be assured we are working as hard as we can to reopen this venue to the public as soon as we can.”
