Three of Glasgow Clan's sponsors have suspended deals with the ice hockey team following a crisis-laden week in which a player accused of rape was signed, and then dropped, from the club.
Aspray Glasgow West - a property insurance claims firm - says it "simply can't remain" as the main sponsor of the Braehead-based outfit while questions remain unanswered about the signing of Finnish defender Lasse Uusivirta. The 33-year-old player was announced as a new signing last week but the deal was dropped hours later after fans pointed out he has outstanding rape charges in the United States.
Neil Black, chairman of Glasgow Clan, launched an investigation, which saw CEO Gareth Chalmers released from his role, while head coach Malcolm Cameron remained in his job. But in a statement released on Thursday evening John Strange, managing director of Aspray, said the club had left too many questions unanswered about the Uusivirta affair.
