Glasgow Airport traveller divides internet over how WHSmith is said

We often come across names that we can't pronounce - or that we think we can until we're told we've been saying it wrong our whole lives.

Whether it's Nike, Nutella, Adobe or everyone's favourite Primark - just to name a few common brand we like to mispronounce - we've all been there.

One common store name many of us know is WH Smith, however for one Belfast woman, it turned out on her trip to Glasgow Airport she noticed she had been saying it wrong the entire time.

The video, which has gained almost 12,000 views, is captioned: "My whole life is a lie. Only took me to 27 to grasp this."

Taking to TikTok, Kat - also known as @katswalker - shared a fact she found quite surprising — leaving many people divided.

Walking through Glasgow Airport she said: "So I'm in the airport and I'm just going to this very popular and well-known chain called WH Smith.

"But I my whole life have called it 'WHS Smith' but it's actually 'WH Smith'."

Pointing the camera at the storefront she continues: "Okay but I didn't think I was the only person who called it 'WHS Smith' or that it's always been 'WH Smith' and maybe I'm just that stupid but please tell me I'm not the only one."

In response to her video, people were quick to say what they thought about her pronunciation of the store name and whilst some were quick to judge, as it turns out there are people who thought the same.

One said: "You’re not alone, I thought the same thing until very recently."

Another added: "The letters are close together, so it’s easily done."

"So you thought there was 2 S's in it?" a third questioned.

Have you been pronouncing it as WH Smith or WHS Smith. Let us know other commonly mispronounced words.
