Glasgow airgun thug shoots cat in eye as SSPCA launch appeal for information

The Scottish SSPCA have launched an appeal for information after a thug shot a cat in the eye with an air rifle.

The 10-year-old ginger cat, thought to be a stray and since named George, was reported to Cat's Protection with an eye injury.

An eye inspection has since shown an air rifle pellet, and the injuries were so severe that George's whole eye had to be removed.

SSPCA bosses have since launched an appeal for information about what happened to George, who was found in the G33 area of the city.

"We are appealing for information after a cat found in the G33 area of Glasgow had to have his eye removed after being shot with an air rifle.

"Owning an air rifle without a licence has been illegal since December 2016. We strongly support restrictions around air rifle ownership because of incidents like this.

"George is now in the care of Cats Protection receiving the care he needs. He is not currently available for rehoming.

"If you recognise this cat, or have any information on how he sustained this injury, please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999."
