A forestry area in an Ayrshire beauty spot could be transformed into a glamping holiday site.
Plans have been lodged with North Ayrshire Council to build seven glamping pods at Eglinton Park in Kilwinning as part of a proposed new tourism development.
Applicants Mr S McLean and Mrs S Pearce have earmarked land near Eglinton House – a Category B listed building within the park's grounds – to make way for the pods, toilets, site office, workshop and a house.
A supporting statement for their proposal says 49 per cent of the trees on site have been condemned by an arborist or have a very short life span.
It goes on: "A report undertaken by my client confirms that none of the trees are of good quality and that the remaining 51 per cent of the trees will require a high level of maintenance in order to be preserved.
"The site is relatively flat and ideal for my clients intended purpose of establishing a recreational holiday destination for those preferring a staycation.
"The site will all be single-storey structures amounting to seven glamping pods, remote sanitary facility, site office, workshop and a house.
"The new house is intended to be a simple T-shaped block of a contemporary design to make the most of the forest environment.
"This new building has been designed and will be constructed to make provision for the access of people with disabilities, including the provision of barrier-free access throughout and two level accesses; one at ground level and one at first-floor level.
"Considerations of access for those with special needs are an integral part of the overall design approach and in accordance with the latest legislation and good practice guidance."
Planners will rule on the application in due course.
