One of Manchester's top luxury hotels has launched a brand new spa after taking over the building right next to it. The King Street Townhouse in the city centre has unveiled the stunning new purpose-built spa and gym to the public this week.
The new gold and cream themed spa is located in the basement of a historic Grade-II listed Italian Renaissance building adjacent to the existing King Street Townhouse hotel on Booth Street, billed as "unlike anything else in Manchester". Formerly the basement bar Lily's, it has been transformed into the hotel's new dedicated wellness space.
The new King Street Townhouse Gym & Spa, designed by EPR Architects, creates what hotel bosses say is "a luxury wellness experience in line with the hotel’s ‘no ordinary’ ethos". It features an immune-boosting Himalayan salt cave, a range of spa treatments from holistic wellbeing brand ESPA, and a range of UK-exclusive facials from leading skincare and wellness brand Perricone MD.

Viki Tahmasebi, CEO, THG Experience, said: “We are delighted to announce the opening of the new King Street Townhouse Gym & Spa. The space touches upon all aspects of wellbeing to offer a place to unwind, recharge and fully escape from the "stress of the everyday".
She adds: "Not only does the new expansion offer an elevated wellness destination in the heart of the city, but it also enhances our ‘home away from home’ experience for our hotel guests."
The subterranean escape has been designed with what bosses describe as "a soothing palette of calming neutrals with contemporary, natural materials such as timber, marble, and stone to evoke a sense of deep relaxation and calm". They say they have "aimed to create a nurturing environment to complement the aromatherapeutic qualities of the various treatments on offer".
The spa includes four treatment rooms; thermal suite; eucalyptus steam room; ice fountain; heated loungers; relaxed dining in the spa lounge; and a full treatment menu. It includes bespoke treatments exclusive to King Street Townhouse from leading skincare and wellness brands ESPA and Perricone MD.
The ESPA Rebalance & Restore Ritual - designed specifically for King Street Townhouse Gym & Spa - is an uplifting massage featuring salt stones, a rose quartz facial, scalp massage and salt inhalation which is said to leave the body, skin, and mind "feeling re-balanced and radiant".
And, in a UK-exclusive, King Street Townhouse has partnered with Perricone MD to create a range of bespoke, specialist spa treatments. Guests of the King Street Townhouse Gym & Spa will be the first in the UK to experience the facials which highlight the brand’s advanced techniques and holistic approach to skin health.
Continuing the wellness theme, guests can also enhance their physical and mental wellbeing with a new state-of-the-art gym facility. Within the four specially designed workout zones - cardio, functional, strength and free weights – guests will find an advanced selection of fitness equipment to suit all strengths and abilities.
Meanwhile the relaxing Spa Lounge will offer a menu of light and nutritious food and refreshments, as well as indulgent treats and beverages, with a range of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options.
The boutique hotel, based inside a 140-year-old historic building, is ranked the 8th best on TripAdvisor for Manchester, with reviewers hailing it one of Manchester's "hidden gems" tucked away in the upper King Street conversation area. It is famous for its top floor events suite and infinity pool - that looks out onto Manchester Town Hall.
The pool is only available to hotel guests, and will be separate from the new spa packages. Spa facilities will be open to both residents and guests, while gym facilities will be exclusively open for hotel residents for a limited time, with membership options launching later in 2022.
The hotel will offer a selection of both day spa and residential experiences, including access to the new thermal facilities with a range of treatments and food and drink options. For more information about the packages and bookings see the hotel website here.
