It turns out we’ve been saying the names of some of our favourite fashion and beauty brands wrong for years.
When it comes down to the likes of Google or Tesco, there’s no way you could possibly mispronounce them. But what about some of our favourite fashion brands like Louis Vuitton and Versace?
If it wasn’t enough that we’ve already been saying ASOS wrong for a long time - it’s ‘Ace-oss’, not ‘A-soss’ - some of these are even more shocking. For Fashion Month, online language learning platform Preply shared some of the most commonly mispronounced fashion and beauty brands and how to correctly say them.

Preply analysed Google search data to reveal which of the most popular cosmetic and apparel brands people around the world are seeking pronunciation guidance on. Among the brands people struggled with the most are Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Versace and L'Occitane.
Yolanda del Peso, marketing specialist at Preply, said: “There are several ways to improve your fashion knowledge and vocabulary to make you sound like a natural this Fashion Month. One of the most effective ways to learn is through reading.
“By incorporating fashion-related content such as magazines, books, and industry reports into your reading schedule you can naturally discover the way in which fashion is referenced. Following fashion creators or bloggers on Instagram or TikTok, or visiting fashion museums can also help you to develop your fashion and industry knowledge. Additionally, if you are interested in a fashion-related career, considering a degree or course in fashion will help you to improve your fashion vocabulary.”
