Newcastle United have dropped into fourth place, after drawing 1-1 against West Ham United at St James' Park.
Manchester United leapfrogged the Magpies following their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, and Newcastle failed to retain third spot with a 10th league draw of the season.
Callum Wilson provided Newcastle with the perfect start when he scored his 10th goal in 12 appearances against the Hammers inside three minutes.
Sean Longstaff threaded a ball into his path and Wilson sprinted away from the West Ham defence to tuck a composed finish beyond Lukasz Fabianski.

Newcastle had the ball in the net just moments before their eventual opener. Joe Willock fired Miguel Almiron's low cross past Fabianski, but the ball had already crossed the line before Almiron delivered it into the box.
West Ham equalised just past the half-hour mark when Lucas Paqueta was left unattended at the back post to prod his finish beyond Nick Pope.
Pope had gone a remarkable seven league games without conceding a goal prior to kick-off, but was unable to register an eighth straight shutout.
