Dear Coleen, Just before Christmas, I threw a surprise 30th birthday party for my girlfriend and I’ve been really shocked and upset by her reaction to it.

We’ve been dating for a year and it’s been great as far as I’m concerned – we have a good sex life, we laugh together and share the same interests.

When we showed up at the restaurant on the night, she looked miserable as her friends and family sang happy birthday.
