Another person was also given aid by a fire service trauma technician. Police said the driver remained on the scene to assist officers.

No arrests have been made at this stage. A cordon was put in place on the busy road after the incident yesterday, with the road taped off in both directions between Blackburn Road and Broad'o'th Lane.

Detectives are urging any witnesses of the crash to come forward. They particularly want to speak to anyone who has dashcam footage.
