It's the kind of thing that'll make parents everywhere grip their children's hands that little bit tighter the next time they get ready to cross the road. This shocking footage, captured on nearby CCTV, shows a little girl almost hit by a bus after it drove through a pedestrian crossing near a primary school while the green man light was on.
The incident, which took place on Newport 's busy Somerton Road yesterday afternoon, shows Tracy Flynn and her six-year-old daughter Courtney making their way home to nearby Mansel Street. After waiting at the kerb for the light at the pedestrian crossing to turn to green both step out, but little Courtney runs ahead.
A bus can then be seen driving through the crossing narrowly missing her. However, after initially hitting the brakes to avoid a collision, the driver then appears to continue on without stopping.

Mum Tracy said that "one second sooner" and her daughter would have been run over. And now she wants the footage shown as a warning to other parents to be extra vigilant whilst crossing the road with their children.
"Courtney turns seven on Sunday and every time I think how close she came to not seeing her birthday I feel sick inside," said the 32-year-old, who'd just picked her daughter up from class at Somerton Primary at around 3.20pm.
"We were waiting on the pavement for the lights to change - I'd always taught her and her brother to wait for the solid green man light to show before stepping out. Neither of us saw the bus coming at all."
She added that were it not for Courtney "jumping back at the last second" things could've ended in tragedy. "She could so easily have ended up under the front wheels.
"The driver didn't even make eye contact or stop to see if we were okay. Both of us were in complete shock and, by the time we arrived home, I was shaking.
"If anything Courtney's dealt with it better than I have, she's a very resilient kid. That said, she was very wary about going back to school this morning - normally she loves the place."
Tracey said that the family had contacted Newport Transport to complain and had been told the firm were 'looking into the incident'. "We're just scared that this could happen again to someone else's child and that little one might not be as lucky as Courtney," she added.
A spokesperson for Newport Transport said: "We take matters such as this extremely seriously and have launched a full investigation in line with our policies and procedures."
