A teenager is fighting for life after being stabbed by a male student at a school in far north Queensland.
An 18-year-old male was taken into custody and is assisting with the investigation, police said.
The teen was stabbed at the school grounds of the Peace Lutheran College in Cairns about 10.30am on Tuesday.
Both teenagers involved in the incident were known to each other, police said.
Paramedics said the teen suffered a number of stab wounds to the torso and was taken to the Cairns hospital in critical condition.
The college initially declined to comment on the incident, but a spokeswoman said the school expected to issue a statement on Tuesday.
Investigations are continuing.
