Girl, 3, dies after fall from balcony as sister injured and mum questioned over murder

A three-year-old girl died after falling from a balcony in Germany after her mother threw her from the first floor.

A 38-year-old threw her children, aged one and three, from the first floor of her house and her three-year-old daughter died.

On Thursday, in Saarbrücken, the capital of the state of Saarland, the mother then jumped herself and has been in a coma ever since.

Police spokesman Falk Hasenberg said the fall into the garden was about five meters and the three-year-old girl suffered such severe head injuries that she died in the hospital that night.

The one-year-old sibling remained almost unharmed and the mother survived but has not yet regained consciousness.

Neighbours sounded the alarm before the crime as loud screams could be heard coming from both the children and mother from inside the house.

According to a police spokesman, the incident was reported around 9 pm on Thursday evening and police are now assuming it was a homicide.

When the fall happened, the father and several relatives were in the apartment and they were all interrogated overnight.

The news came as the ex-boyfriend of a slain German backpacker was charged with murder.

Police allege German-born Tobias Moran, formerly known as Tobias Suckfuell, murdered his 25-year-old girlfriend and countryman before hiding her naked body under palm fronds in Australia in 2005.

On Tuesday, police in Perth arrested Mr Moran, 42 and he was extradited to Sydney late on Wednesday and then charged with murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
