Girl, 12, kicked and punched by boy in school as police investigate

Police are investigating after a 12-year-old girl was hit by a boy during school time.

Merseyside Police received a report following an incident at Gateacre School at around 11am on Thursday, May 11. It's reported that a 12-year-old schoolgirl was kicked and punched by a boy at breaktime.

The girl was left "distressed" after the incident and suffered bruising to her head and redness to the neck following the incident. Video footage, which The ECHO has chosen not to publish, was recorded by fellow students and posted on social media.

In the footage the schoolgirl can be seen walking backwards as a boy approaches her, before he hits her and she tries to kick him back, but misses. The footage then appears to show the schoolgirl pulling the boy to the floor before he gets up and kicks her shin before walking away.

During the footage you can hear one of the students behind the camera say "go on lad, get her lad". While another person calls the 12-year-old girl a "s**g".

Police have said they are working with the school to "identify the suspect responsible".

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm we received a report of an assault between pupils at a Liverpool school. It was reported that on Thursday 11 May a boy had struck a 12-year-old girl at Gateacre School on Hedgefield Road, Belle Vale.

"The victim suffered bruising to her head and redness to the neck and was left distressed by the incident. Officers are investigating the incident and working with the school to identify the suspect responsible.

"Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23000417200."
