Girl, 12, and two women rushed to different hospitals after crash

Two women and a 12-year-old girl were taken to different hospitals after a car crash closed a major road.

Police and paramedics were called to Hooten Green in Ellesmere Port shortly after 9pm on Friday, May 20 following reports of a crash between a Ford Focus, a Citroen and VW transporter. Photos show the extent of damage caused to the front of a red Ford Focus which one man said was "virtually disintegrated".

A 43-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl who were travelling in the same vehicle were taken to Aintree Hospital and Arrowe Park Hospital for treatment. Cheshire Police said the 43-year-old's injuries were not believed to be serious, while the girl's injuries were believed to be minor.

A 54-year-old woman from another vehicle attended the Countess of Chester Hospital with injuries which were believed to be minor. One man, whose wife was involved in the crash, said "it's a wonder there wasn't any fatalities."

He told the ECHO: "I live about two-three minutes [away] from Hooton crossroads so my eldest daughter rang me to say my wife was in a bad accident and was on her way to hospital.

"My wife was really shaken up. She's been in tears several times a day since to be honest."

Cheshire Police said a 24-year-old man from Wexford was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation.
