Girl, 11, dies after being hit by car in south London

The crash happened on Tooting Bec Road - (X)

An 11-year-old girl has died in hospital after being hit by a car in south London.

Officers were called to the junction of Garrads Road at Tooting Bec Road in Tooting at around 1pm on December 12, following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, paramedics from London Ambulance Service treated the girl for injuries before taking her to hospital.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, the girl sadly died on Monday, January 5.

A 54-year-old man was arrested at the scene of the crash on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and on suspicion of driving under of the influence.

He has been bailed while enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in the local area, said: “The victim’s family are going through unimaginable pain, and our thoughts remain with them at this time.

“We have spoken to a number of people who witnessed the collision, but we would like to encourage anyone else who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation.”
