Girl, 10, tragically dies after collapsing in school from 'brain haemorrhage'

A 10-year-old girl tragically died after collapsing in school. Rai-Lèyah Parveen Jayne Saddique was rushed to hospital after fainting in class on Wednesday November 9.

The youngster, from Wakefield, was taken to Pinderfields Hospital then later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary, where she sadly died in the early hours of Monday November 14. Rai-Lèyah, who was the third eldest of four, was described as a popular and much-loved girl.

Hundreds gathered for her funeral service yesterday at Jamia Masjid Swafia mosque on Park Lodge Lane, Wakefield. A burial service was then held at Wakefield Cemetery on Sugar Lane, Yorkshire Live reports. Among the attendees were friends and teachers from her school in Wakefield.

A family spokesman said: "She was a hard-working girl who was loved by family and friends. Her school was closed today. Students attended (her funeral) and let off balloons."

The spokesman said it was believed that Rai-Lèyah passed away after suffering a brain haemorrhage. She was described as a previously fit and healthy child.

A well-wisher added: "Can't even begin to imagine what they are going through." Another wrote: "Heartbreaking and tragic news, she's only a little older than our daughter and I can't imagine the agony the parents must be feeling."

A third said: "Beautiful angel. Ameen."
