Reports suggesting that Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis could join Serie A side Sampdoria have suffered a potential spanner in the works - with Bordeaux now being touted as an 11th-hour option for the Greek star.
Having declined new terms on a contract at Celtic just before the window, it quickly became apparent that the striker bought from VVV Venlo last summer for just £2.5million was going to be sent on his way despite being a fan favourite.
Sampdoria, Uwara Red Diamonds, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Minnesota United have had interest in Giakoumakis throughout the weeks, with a deal for Sampdoria and Uwara looking to be the front runners - but now, with time ticking and reports thickening about a move to Italy, Bordeaux have seemingly put their name in the hat to sign Giakoumakis.

The former French champions, who last won the top-flight in 2009, are looking to add to their attacking contingent, with Giakoumakis one of their top targets due to his contract situation. And, according to L'Equipe, an offer of just over £2.6million has been submitted to Ange Postecoglou and his team.
Of course, with Uwara Red Diamonds tabling an offer of £8m, according to reports, Bordeaux would have to up their offer. That may be difficult - the former European powerhouse suffered relegation last season alongside a financial collapse, being placed into administration. Their financial worries saw them demoted to the third tier - though an appeal found them back in the second division.
The club currently sit in second place, and could use Giakoumakis as their wildcard to come back up.
