Chuffed Giorgos Giakoumakis reckons his first Atlanta United goal will be the start of something special as he helped fire his team to a comprehensive win.
The Major League Soccer side have started the season on form with with an undefeated start and they were dominant once again in their 5-1 trouncing of Portland Timbers on Saturday night. And the signature win was boosted by their marquee signing grabbing his first goal with a trademark header at the back post. Giakoumakis was a key man for Celtic under Ange Postecoglou and has now set his sights on a leading role for one of pre-season favourites title favourites.
And Giakoumakis was both delighted and emotional as he addressed his team-mates with the match ball on his lap as he guaranteed there was more to come after playing the waiting game to truly kickstart his stint in Atlanta. Speaking after the win, he said: “I’m really happy and I think we can do great things in the future."
