Giorgos Giakoumakis Celtic transfer proposal 'accepted' as Atlanta play trump card to see off Urawa Red Diamonds

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has reportedly sealed his Parkhead exit after Atlanta United finally sealed an agreement with the Scottish champions.

The Greek frontman has appeared destined for a January exit after Record Sport revealed that talks over a new Celtic contract has collapsed but with deadline day rapidly approaching time appeared to be running out for the 28-year-old.

The Scottish Premiership side had only been willing to accept a cash offer with the MLS side looking to initially secure a loan switch for Giakoumakis, with a permanent move triggered if a series of incentives were hit by the striker. But with a £4million bid on the table from Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds the Hoops were unwilling to allow the Greece cap to make the move across the Atlantic unless an acceptable guaranteed transfer fee was put on the table. That sparked reports that Giakoumakis had opted for a move to the J-League and had undergone a medical ahead of a switch.

However, SDNA now claim that Celtic have accepted a "proposal" from Atlanta for a permanent transfer, and is now preparing to fly Stateside. The Georgian outfit will reportedly make Giakoumakis a 'Designated Player' which will allow them to exceed the MLS salary cap - which the Americans had been looking to avoid with the loan offer.

The initial agreement will reportedly see Celtic receive £3.4m with an additional £790,000 in add ons. These add ons will reportedly be based on the goals and appearances this term.
