Giorgos Giakoumakis and the Celtic transfer U turn theory as Josip Juranovic bidding 'surprise' sparks intrigue

A long-term stay at Celtic for Giorgos Giakoumakis has not been ruled out amid transfer speculation - and neither has one for Josip Juranovic.

The latter shone at right-back for Croatia at the World Cup and the list of clubs reportedly after his services is lengthy. But Juranovic has not made a move yet and neither has Giakoumakis, who is said to be closing in on a move to Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan.

Former Parkhead defender Mark Wilson saw that the Greek forward was out of Wednesday's 4-0 win over St Mirren and thought it was curtains for him. But with Postecoglou clearing up that it was only injury, he wonders whether Giakoumakis could push through a new deal at Celtic. Juranovic meanwhile filled in at left-back with new signing Alistair Johnston on the right, and this has peaked Wilson's interest too. He told Superscoreboard: "I must admit, when the teams were read out. I thought it was as clear-cut as you could get it that he (Giakoumakis) was off somewhere and Celtic don't want to play him because of that.

"But the manager has cleared it up, so maybe there is still some mileage in this. Will Celtic break and give him what he is after or increase his wage?

"Or do they cut their ties for what I believe - and I think many others too - is a cut-price deal. Three or four million, I think he is worth more than that.

"I just wonder with the Juranovic one, the longer time passes by from the World Cup, he was fresh in people's sights there. I thought coming off the back of that and a wee break that some clubs would be bidding higher than what is reportedly been offered.

"So that does surprise me as well. But he has come in handy at the minute in Greg Taylor's absence and doesn't look out of place. Alistair Johnston and Juranovic can play in the same team but I just didn't see it happening."
