Gio van Bronckhorst offers Rangers apology as ashen-faced boss makes beeline for away fans

Gutted Gio van Bronckhorst made a beeline for Rangers' travelling supporters in the wake of their 4-0 horror show defeat to Celtic.

The Europa League finalists were outclassed by the Scottish Premiership champions from first minute to last, who have now opened up a five-point advantage over their rivals. Rangers suffered a one-sided defeat at the home of the rivals last season, and it was the same fate once again.

And Van Bronckhorst offered an apologetic wave to the travelling band of Rangers supporters who were subjected to a chastening afternoon in Glasgow's east end. It's a nightmare for the Ibrox side as they must regroup quickly before their crucial Champions League opener away to Ajax on Wednesday night. He certainly isn't short of problems to seek.

And the Dutchman offered a hand of apology as he made sure to let them know that was below the standards he expects. A host of Rangers players joined their boss in clapping the travelling supporters who watched the likes of Liel Abada and Jota wreak havoc for Celtic.

The big games don't ease up for Rangers, as they head to Amsterdam before they take on rivals Aberdeen at Pittodrie next Saturday. But there will be an incoming post mortem for staff, players and vexed supporters who were left miffed by a lack of action before the transfer window closed on Thursday.
