Gio van Bronckhorst is adamant Rangers won’t go to Belgrade and play with their backs to the wall in a bid to protect their 3-0 first leg Europa League lead.
The Ibrox boss believes Red Star Belgrade remain a huge threat to his club’s hopes of reaching the last eight of the competition and van Bronckhorst doesn’t want his men sitting back trying to keep out the Serbs for 90 minutes.
A goal for Rangers in the infamous Marakana Stadium - which is heading for a sell-out crowd - would all but seal the deal and the Dutchman intends to go for it.
He said: “It’s a hard job we have going there.
“But we are going to Belgrade looking to get a good result.
“We aren’t thinking about the three-goal lead we have. We have to go there from the first minute and make sure we get a good result. If we do that then we will go through to the next round.
“It will be tough but we will prepare well and make sure we are ready for Red Star when that first whistle goes on Thursday.”
Van Bronckhorst would settle for the kind of start his team made against Dundee in Sunday’s Scottish Cup win at Dens Park.
He added: “I’m delighted with what the players gave me.
“It was a short period of time after Thursday and we didn’t have a lot of time to recover.
“We missed a few players as they weren’t ready for this game.
“But we showed the depth we have in the squad and I am very pleased with the result but also with our attitude.
“From the first minute it was right and you could see the energy and hunger in the team to perform well to get into the semi-final.
“Dundee can be a tricky tie if you are not 100 percent focused and it can be a tough game.
“That’s why you have to start well and when we went 2-0 up at half-time we could take off Alfredo Morelos.
“We did it as we had an eye on Thursday and I’m happy I could change players in the second half.”
