While Valentine’s Day might be on everyone’s mind starting into this week, many might have forgotten that Pancake Tuesday is just around the corner. Well, Ireland’s favourite gelato store hasn’t and they will be giving away free crêpes to celebrate.
Pancake Tuesday, celebrated on February 21 this year to mark the start of Lent, is a staple of Irish culture and to mark the day, Gino’s Gelato will be giving away free crêpes to customers between 9am and 12pm in selected stores across Ireland.
That means if you aren’t prepared to bust out the flour, sugar and eggs to whip up a batch of pancakes, then Gino’s Gelato can sort you out with a selection of free Nutella crêpes or sugar and lemon crêpes on the day between those hours. If you don’t get there on time you can still head whenever suits you to purchase from the extensive selection on offer in the store.

Everyone knows the story behind the Irish treat-yourself day. On Pancake Tuesday, which takes place the day before Ash Wednesday, the rich foods in the house (such as eggs and milk) had to be used up before Lent started - so homemakers would often make pancakes as a treat.
Nationwide, Gino’s Gelato has 32 stores across Dublin, Cork, Galway, Waterford, Wicklow, Mayo, Limerick, Wexford and Kildare, however, the free crêpes will not be available in the Liffey Valley store.
Company founder Jonathan Kirwan said in a statement: "We offer a wide selection of crêpes in-store every day, with customers choosing from a wide range of toppings.
"Favourites include Gino’s chocolate Oreo crêpe (crushed Oreos, white chocolate sauce, fresh cream and Gino’s melted Oreo variegato), Gino’s Special (Nutella, sliced banana and chopped strawberries) or the Traditional (lemon, butter and sugar)."
