We’re on to Week 3, and the New Orleans Saints can’t afford to overlook the Green Bay Packers — despite having fallen to .500 after blowing a double-digit fourth quarter lead to the Atlanta Falcons, this is still a talented team with playmakers on both sides of the ball.
One fun way to preview their depth chart is picking which players who could be great fits in New Orleans. If we had our pick, these are the Packers we’d rather see suit up for the Saints on Sunday:
CB Jaire Alexander
Pair Alexander with Marshon Lattimore and you have the best cornerback tandem in the NFL. Coming into the season, Alexander was ranked the fourth best corner in the league by NFL coaches and executives. Paulson Adebo is a good running mate, but this move would give the Saints two lockdown corners on an already dominant defense. The only problem would be Alexander changing his number from 23. — Darrion Gray
LT David Bakhtiari
With the struggles of Trevor Penning continuing through Week 2, getting a blindside protector for Derek Carr would be even more pressing in this hypothetical scenario. Despite Bakhtiari dealing with injury at some points in recent years, he is still one of the premier tackles in the NFL who has the skills to fit into this offensive line seamlessly. — Jeremy Trottier
QB Jordan Love
The Saints went playoffs or bust in their offseason moves, something that was reflected by a number of factors that included Derek Carr’s contract. Though it’s still early on, Carr has been lackluster, showcasing issues with accuracy, ball placement, decision-making, timing and that pesky interception-proneness issue that seems to exist with his regardless of the talent he does or does not have around him. Former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love has shined since taking Aaron Rodgers’ position with the Packers, and in a perfect world where the Saints could have a whirl at some other starters across the NFL, Love could be better option than Carr and especially given the Saints’ situation at quarterback currently, could be an asset. — Crissy Froyd
OL Zach Tom
Zach Tom is a promising young pass blocker that has experience at both tackle spots and left guard in the NFL. He’s a very good player that would be a nice young addition to this offensive line. Have either him or Penning at left guard and you could see an improved offensive line. The Saints’ pass blocking has been nothing short of horrendous outside of Ryan Ramczyk this season, one of the question marks heading into the season has been marked over with highlighter at this point, something needs to be done about it. — Dylan Sanders
