The New York Giants (5-1) will visit the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-4) at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida this Sunday.
That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Jaguars’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue.
Surprisingly, the Jaguars have a relatively deep roster with a lot of talent. Players like running back Travis Etienne Jr., guard Brandon Scherff and cornerback Tyson Campbell are all very tempting to steal. There’s also quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and linebackers Devin Lloyd, Josh Allen and Travon Walker.
There’s even a talented, albeit inconsistent, tight end in Evan Engram. But we all know how that goes.
At wide receiver, the Jags are also loaded up with Christian Kirk, Marvin Jones Jr. and Zay Jones. And this is where we hit a snag — the Giants could desperately use one, but which of the three?
Kirk is tempting because of his all-around talent. But what the Giants truly need is a taller outside threat that can go up and snatch the ball out of the air. And given that Jones Jr. is nearing the age of 33, we ultimately settled on Zay Jones.
Although Jones has been a little inconsistent throughout his career, he’s also shown flashes of being an elite receiver. With the Jags, he seems to be hitting his stride a bit and demonstrating more consistency and professionalism.
Jones is currently Jacksonville’s highest-graded wide receiver (70.6) and can also be used in gadget formations, which would fit nicely with Mike Kafka’s offensive approach. Further, Jones is a quality blocker, both at the line of scrimmage and down the field.
Jones may not be a flashy pick, but he’s a solid talent at a position of need for the Giants. He would instantly make their wide receiver group better.
What are your thoughts, Giants fans? Would you pick Zay Jones or would you steal an entirely different player from the Jacksonville Jaguars?
