Gillian Anderson is desperate to play cold-hearted killer after hunting one in The Fall

Gillian Anderson has revealed she is 'very keen' to play a cold-hearted killer after starring as a detective in The Fall.

In the BBC series, Gillian plays superintendent Stella Gibson, who assesses the progress of a murder investigation that remained active for longer than 28 days.

After realising the serial killer is on the loose, Stella and other detectives work to find the man who is attacking young women in Belfast.

"I'm very keen to play a murderer. I don't believe I've ever murdered anybody. You have to put yourself out there," she said of her future roles.

The Sex Education actress also said she would have been a detective if she wasn't an actress.

She told Daily Star: "I wish I could be a detective. I'd love to, but I'm too stupid and too clumsy and I don't take enough stuff in."

Gillian currently plays Dr Jean Milburn in the hit Netflix series Sex Education.

The fourth season of the series has been confirmed, but her kids still don't get to watch her in it.

Back in September, the X-Files actress confessed she banned her children - Piper, 27, Oscar, 15, and Felix, 13 - from watching the series.

"I am living happily in the denial that my children do not watch the show. I hope they haven't,” she told the Radio Times podcast.

When the show first hit TV screens in January 2019, Gillian confessed she told her children they “weren’t allowed” to watch Sex Education in an effort to save her blushes.

"I have no control over what they do at their friends' houses. I have no control over what their friends show them!" she laughed.

She went on to praise the comedy show for wonderfully handling serious issues such as abortion and consent.

Gillian said certain aspects of Sex Education are “vital for young people to hear”.

The actress can play it all, from sex-positive therapist to determined detective.

Last year, she took home an Emmy for her role as Margaret Thatcher on the hit series The Crown.

The actress was awarded the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of the former British Prime Minister in the fourth season of the Netflix drama.
