Arsenal invincible Gilberto Silva has sent a reminder to his former club after seeing Emile Smith Rowe net the 600th Premier League goal at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.
The Gunners’ playmaker was on hand to sweep home an excellent solo effort against the Bees on Saturday as Mikel Arteta’s men ran out 2-1 victors and took another significant step towards sealing a return to Europe in the process.
Whilst the goal was crucial in sealing victory, Smith Rowe’s strike was also a significant one in Arsenal history with it being the 600th Premier League goal that the club have scored at the Emirates Stadium since their switch from Highbury back in 2006.
The Gunners’ recognised the achievement with a tweet looking back at the players to have chalked up the century numbers at the stadium - a list which includes the likes of Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott, Andrey Arshavin and many more, the latest name being added of course that of Smith Rowe.
However, Gunners icon Gilberto Silva did not want his contribution to that number being forgotten with the Brazilian having scored Arsenal’s first ever Premier League goal at their new home.
Taking on Aston Villa at the start of the 2006/07 season, the Brazilian was on hand to fire home van Persie’s knockdown but only after Olaf Melberg claimed the distinction of netting the first-ever competitive goal at the stadium.
Taking to Twitter to remind Gunners’ fans of his achievement, Gilberto wrote: “But who started it with the first goal?” - his tweet then being followed by a winky emoji.
In all, the Brazilian midfielder went on to score 24 goals throughout his Arsenal career - with his most productive season coming in the 2006/07 campaign with 11 strikes in all competitions throughout the season.
He of course played a huge role for the Gunners during the 2003/04 season as Arsenal lifted the Premier League title without losing a single game.
