Gigs you definitely shouldn’t miss this year in Liverpool

It can be a bit of a headache keeping on top of the dates and venues of so many different gigs happening in the city.

With that in mind, we've put together an extensive breakdown of the live music happening in Liverpool in 2023. From local artists selling out iconic venues to some noughties big hitters, there's something here for everyone.

You can find the powerful Loyle Carner in just a few days and the return of S Club 7 in December, with Jamie Webster taking over the Pier Head in June.

We've broken it down month-by month. There will be even more performances out there, so this is by no means a comprehensive list.

February

Nova Twins

Heavy rock act Nova Twins will be performing on the February 23 at the 02 Academy on Hotham Street, just off London Road.

The Sway/The Merchants

A double header of The Sway from Liverpool and The Merchants from Wirral will be performing at PHASE ONE on Seel Street on February 24. What's more, tickets for the gig will be free.

Loyle Carner

Hip hop and rap artist Loyle Carner will be performing at Mountford Hall on February 24. The Liverpool fan's latest album Hugo was described by The Guardian as a "masterpiece".

The Black Angels

Psych-rock outfit The Black Angels will be performing at the Invisible Wind Factory on February 26.

March

Bullet for My Valentine

Bullet for My Valentine will bring their distinctive mix of metal, punk and emo to Mountford Hall on March 1.

Girls Don’t Sync

As part of their debut UK tour, Girls Don't Sync will showcase their garage and bassline anthems at Merkai in the Ten Streets area on March 4.

The Lathums

The indie rock band, hailing from Wigan, will cross over into Merseyside for a show at Mountford Hall on March 6.

LADYTRON

Formed in Liverpool in 1999, electronic band Ladytron will be comping to the Baltic Triangle's Camp and Furnace on March 11.

Candlelight: Hans Zimmer's Best Works

While it won't be Hans Zimmer performing himself, Candlelight concerts will have an orchestra performing the legendary composer's best work. Music that had been featured in Man of Steel, Interstellar and The Crown will be part of a "multi-sensory musical experience" at St George's Hall on March 18.

Fatboy Slim

Fatboy Slim will be showcasing his latest album and his most iconic hits on March 23 at Mountford Hall.

Sam Ryder

Sam Ryder, last year's UK entry for Eurovision, will be performing in the host city this year at the 02 Academy on March 25.

April

The Damned

Also at the 02 Academy, punk rock band The Damned will be playing there on April 5.

Elton John

Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has been rescheduled due to clashing with Eurovision. He will be performing at the M&S Bank Arena March 24 and 25.

Razorlight

Razorlight will be bringing the indie pop anthems, including America and Before I fall to Pieces, to Mountford Hall on April 13.

Liverpool Sound City

Liverpool's iconic music festival will be returning this April across the weekend of April 29 and 30. Acts include Sofy, The Reytons and Masie Peters.

May

Foals

Beloved by FIFA 14 fans, Foals will be gigging at the 02 Academy on May 5 and 6.

Aston Merrygold

The former JLS star will also be performing at the 02 Academy a few days later on May 11.

Sugababes

The iconic girl group will be live at the famous Aintree Recourse on May 19.

Jools Holland

All round musician and BBC host Jools Holland will be performing with his orchestra on May 28. It will take place at the Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street.

June

Pet Shop Boys

The pop group formed in 1981 are still going strong, demonstrated by their show at the M&S Bank Arena on June 23.

Liverpool On the Waterfront

An iconic festival of local music will take place at Liverpool On The Waterfront. The Pier Head will feature musicians such as Jamie Webster, The Coral and Red Rum Club. It will take place from June 29 to July 2.

July

Red Rum Club

Red Rum Club will also be performing at Bootle Canalside on July 8.

August

Olly Murs

The singer of Heart Skips a Beat will be performing at the Arena, alongside special guest Scouting For Girls.

September

Echo and The Bunnymen performing at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool 9th June 2022 (Liverpool Echo)

Echo & The Bunnymen

Formed in Liverpool in 1978, the rock band will be returning home to the arena on September 16.

Popworld Live

Popworld Live will take place at the Arena on September 23. Acts include Ronan Keating, Basshunter and Claire from Steps.

October

S Club 7

S Club 7 have reformed for the first time in eight years. Their iconic nineties and noughties hits will be on display on October 13 at the Arena.

December

Sophie Ellis Bextor

Best known for hit single Murder On The Dancefloor, Sophie Ellis Bextor will be live at the Philharmonic Hall on December 2. She will be singing a selection of her songs as well as some festive classics.

Leona Lewis

X Factor Winner Leona Lewis has a December show at the M&S Bank Arena on December 9.
