NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah published his 2024 mock draft 2.0 on Tuesday and many New York Giants fans will be pleased with the pick.
Jeremiah has the Giants biting the bullet and selecting LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels — the reigning Heisman Trophy winner — with the 6th overall pick.
I don’t make trade projections in mock drafts this early in the process, which is why Daniels is still available at No. 6. I wouldn’t rule out the Giants trying to move up for a quarterback, but in this scenario, Daniels falls into their lap.
Jeremiah has four quarterbacks being taken in the first eight picks: USC’s Caleb Williams going first overall to the Chicago Bears with Drake Maye of North Carolina being taken second by the Washington Commanders.
The Giants then pulled the trigger on Daniels at No. 6 followed by the Atlanta Falcons selecting Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy at No. 8.
Giant fans appear to be in favor of moving on from Daniel Jones at quarterback after five seasons of injuries and inconsistent play. He is under contract for three more seasons but the Giants can sever ties with him after this season with minimal salary cap consequences.
The Giant faithful can finally switch from Jack Daniels to Jayden on game days with the hopes they finally have an elite NFL quarterback to compete for a championship.
Jones has had his chances and the excuses are getting old. It is true the team has been a mess over the past decade but Jones has done little to turn the tide and has become the face of all that losing and ineptitude.
They would do themselves — and Jones — a service by going in a different direction at quarterback. Daniels would be a good start.
