Shortly after Giants quarterback Daniel Jones reportedly agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the team, New York decided to franchise tag running back Saquon Barkley, sources told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Barkley’s franchise tender is worth $10.09 million.
The franchise tag was decided just minutes before the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday. Barkley was one of six players to have a franchise tag placed on them before the Tuesday deadline. Here’s the full list of players.
Barkley previously mentioned how it was his wish to stay with the Giants saying “I would love to be a Giant for life,” shortly after the team’s playoff run came to an end in January. Tuesday’s move paves the way for Barkley to return for his sixth year in New York next season.
Barkley is a two-time Pro Bowler with the team after having just received the honor for the second time in his career after the 2022 season. Barkley finished the campaign with a career-high 1312 rushing yards on 295 carries. He also caught 57 passes for 338 yards and scored 10 rushing touchdowns.
