Giants place Bobby Okereke, Patrick Johnson on injured reserve

The New York Giants have placed linebacker Bobby Okereke (back) and Patrick Johnson (knee) on season-ending injured reserve.

Okereke, who played every snap in 2023, last suited up against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. He hadn’t missed a game since 2020.

The defensive captain closes out his second season with the Giants having recorded 93 tackles (47 solo, six for a loss), three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three passes defensed, two QB hits, and 2.0 sacks.

Johnson suffered a knee injury during a Week 15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

In a corresponding roster move, the Giants signed safety Raheem Layne from their practice squad to the active roster. They have one spot still open.

Finally, linebacker Boogie Basham and offensive lineman Tyre Phillips were elevated from the reserve unit. For Basham, it’s his first standard elevation of the year. He has two remaining.

Phillips was previously elevated ahead of a Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints. He has only a single elevation remaining this season.
