Giants lose captain Julian Love to Seahawks

Free agent safety Julian Love recently said negotiations were “ramping up” with the New York Giants but they apparently fell flat.

Jordan Schultz of The Score reports that Love is signing with the Seattle Seahawks following a visit earlier this week.

Love is allegedly signing a two-year deal worth $12 million, which seems affordable but general manager Joe Schoen clearly opted to go in a different direction.

“Things have ramped up,” Love said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio last Friday. “The (Giants) constantly expressed interest. Since the end of the season, they’ve reiterated the interest to bring me back. I reiterated that I want to be back, hopefully, [if] we can meet on the price.”

Love said he wanted to finish what was started in East Rutherford, but acknowledged money is a big part of the equation. Ultimately, he decided to do what was best for his family.

“There’s a sense of wanting to finish the job with the team that drafted you, but at the same time, you just can’t settle. [A] football career is so short that you have to get what you feel is fair while you’re in it,” Love added.

“I’m human. Money is a huge part of the equation, but it’s not the end-all, be-all. It’s a huge point, but the feel has to be right. If you don’t believe in the organization and their ability to grow going forward, that says it all. There’s that balance.”

The Giants reportedly offered Love more than the Seahawks but he felt there was some level of disconnect. Apparently, money wasn’t as significant a factor as he implied.

In the end, Love heads across the country for a lower salary and the Giants now need to address the safety position.
