Giants lead NFL in ACL tears since 2019

Since 2013, the NFL has seen 496 players go down with a torn ACL. 19 of them have been members of the New York Giants, which is eighth-worst in the league over that span.

However, since 2019, things have gotten even worse for the Giants. Over those four seasons, 14 players on their roster have suffered a torn ACL. That’s tied for worst in the league with the Denver Broncos.

And last season? Big Blue led the NFL with six players suffering a torn ACL.

The constant injury issues have once again thrust the MetLife Stadium turf into the spotlight and general manager Joe Schoen has vowed to look into that this offseason.

Expectations are that MetLife Stadium will replace its turf but not with grass. Rather, they will switch to a newer synthetic surface.

“Obviously, there’s a standard in the league already, but we want that standard to be raised,” safety Julian Love said in November. “Ideally, if everybody could be playing on grass, that would be the best-case scenario. It’s just easier on the players’ bodies, but if not, upgrade to the premium turf that is now being used at the newer stadiums.”

Time will tell if the new surface results in a reduction of injuries, specifically torn ACLs.
