Here we go again. That’s what many Washington fans are thinking after seeing the New York Giants jump ahead of the Commanders 14-3 in the first half of their Week 11 rematch.
When the teams met four weeks ago, the Giants held a 14-0 halftime lead before holding on for a 14-7 victory. On Sunday, a touchdown run by quarterback Sam Howell late in the second quarter cut New York’s lead to 14-9. Kicker Joey Slye missed the point after.
Things started well defensively for the Commanders, as they sacked New York rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito five times in the first quarter. Unfortunately for Washington, DeVito had the last laugh, completing 14 of 19 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns, despite taking six sacks.
Howell was uneven in the first half, completing 13 of 18 passes for 115 yards and an interception. The biggest difference between these two teams in the first half is New York has forced two turnovers, one of which was turned into a touchdown.
The Commanders had a chance to score again with a minute remaining and the ball around midfield, but Howell was sacked on second down. Washington allowed the clock to expire after the next play.
The Giants have scored four first-half touchdowns in 2023. All four have come against the Commanders.
Washington will begin the second half on offense.
