Giants’ Jalin Hyatt has motivation necessary to topple Cowboys

One of the knocks on wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, a third-round draft pick of the New York Giants in last weekend’s NFL draft, was that he was a creature of a favorable scheme at Tennessee.

Scouts challenged Hyatt’s overall route-running ability as well as his ability to create plays in short spaces. He was seen as strictly a deep threat.

At his pro day before the draft, those sentiments were evident as Hyatt received instruction (and criticism) from Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Robert Prince.

Coach: You know what you are.

Hyatt: What am I, coach?

Coach: You know what you are.

Hyatt: What’s that?

Coach: I’m sayin’ like you have a skill set, right?

Hyatt: What’s that skill set?

Coach: It’s your speed.

Hyatt: But can run routes, though.

Coach: We’re about to see.

Hyatt: We will see.

Hyatt will get plenty of chances to answer Prince’s criticism going forward since the Giants and Dallas meet twice yearly. The Giants have only beaten the Cowboys once in their last 11 meetings. Perhaps Hyatt can help change that.
