The New York Giants came into Thursday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers in hopes of carrying their momentum from their dramatic come-from-behind victory in Week 2.
The Giants were extremely short-handed taking on one of the league’s best teams, missing most notably running back Saquon Barkley, offensive tackle Andrew Thomas, and linebacker Azeez Ojulari.
Buy Giants TicketsComing in as heavy underdogs, the Giants fought hard in the second half but the 49ers were too much to handle. San Francisco pulled away early in the fourth quarter and Big Blue was handed a 30-12 loss.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the loss:
I can’t get too worked up about things I’m seeing in my replies like:
* why did #Giants abandon run game?
* why is every throw so quick
* no creative pass designs!
ALL of those things require competent offensive line play

And that's the cherry on top of this disaster.
Daniel Jones hits Darren Waller in the hands, it bounces off a 49er, and ends up getting picked off.

Giants just can’t operate against the fronts of Dallas/49ers/Eagles right now.
Any mistake on offense leads to the drive ending. Have to work quick game & teams are ready for it. Have to keep in extra blockers & guys are doubled and still give up pressure.

Daniel Jones has four interceptions on the season. Three of those have hit his targets right in the hands.

It’s 30-12 w 3:30 left — the #Giants have already lost 3 players to injury tonight including starter Deonte Banks — Dexter Lawrence and starters are on the field — I’m BEGGING Brian Daboll to pull the 1s. How many times do they need to press their luck in garbage time? Why do it?

Kept it a 1 score game until early in the 4th quarter without Saquon Andrew Thomas and more starters can’t even be mad

The 49ers points scored through 3 weeks. Shanahan is a scientist.

The Giants are down 30-12 and this sounds crazy to say, but this has been an encouraging performance, relatively speaking, that this team might be able to develop into something after all despite such a brutal start to the year.
They competed on a short week. No moral victories,…

Giants had 150 yards of total offense
3.3 ypa
0 explosive plays
Wink Martindale inexplicably kept blitzing Purdy, who kept shreddingI can't find one encouraging thing from this Giants performance https://t.co/l7iAWoTVY7

I have to be honest there have been some befuddling coaching decisions on both sides of the ball for the Giants.
Undermanned tonight you really needed the coaching to shine. Didn’t happen.#NYGiants #TommysTakes🎙️

At least Andrew Thomas (and probably Ben Bredeson) will be back next week.
This OL is tough to watch.

The Giants lost, 30-12. Needed to play their A-game. Didn’t. Few bounces and calls early didn’t go in their favor either.
Bottom line: 49ers are a much better team. So were Cowboys.
Giants are 1-2. NEED to beat the Seahawks on Monday night.

Now do yards gained after missed tackles. https://t.co/sXQp0AX59L

#FootballFact: A poor tackling defense is a perpetual liability..
This was embarrassing the amount of missed tackles tonight

The Darren Waller hype train sure has lost steam. Maybe he looked so good in training camp because he was facing this secondary. #giants

I knew going in #giants had the deck stacked against them, but they played tough for a short week and a lot of 🗝️ injuries.
My takes! #NYGiants
We need O-Line help.
Pugh could be an asset.
Andrew Thomas is severely missed
McFadden 👀 amazing
Waller was off tonight#NYGvsSF— BillySaxx-CMN69 (@BillySaxxCMN69) September 22, 2023
How bad was it for the #Giants?
3 of 12 on 3rd down
150 total yards
29 rush yards
121 passing yards
Nearly doubled on time of possession 39:10 to 20:50#49ers ran 32 more plays
Leading receiver had 32 yds
Leading rusher 17 yds— Brian Drake (@DrakeFantasy) September 22, 2023
Everyone, myself included had the giants at 1-2 after their first three games. With that being said, I can’t help but feel incredibly disappointed and hopeless lol #Giants

Daniel Jones is now 1-11 in primetime games.
Rough night, but the #Giants were short handed without Andrew Thomas and Saquon.

10 days to get three starters back, including the best player on the team. https://t.co/3oXvfKr9xS
— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) September 22, 2023
Wan'Dale Robinson & Parris Campbell had 10 catches but only for 45 yards
49ers knew the ball would be coming out quick with their front anytime Giants lined up in shotgun with 11 personnel and got aggressive with their coverage although giving the pre snap looks of off coverage
