Giants’ Drew Lock is ‘100 percent’ sure he’ll be ready by Week 1

After 2023 saw multiple quarterbacks go down with an injury, the New York Giants were desperate to solidify their backup situation as well as the offensive line this offseason.

So, general manager Joe Schoen went on the hunt and brought in players from other teams to help protect their pass throwers, as well as quarterback Drew Lock to step in should Daniel Jones go down again.

On Thursday night in the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions, Lock played until he went down with an injury late in the first quarter. He looks to miss a couple of weeks with a hip pointer and strained oblique, but the former Seahawk is certain he will be ready by Week 1.

“100% confident,” Lock said on Monday when asked how confident he was that he would be ready to go when the season starts. “There’s no worry in that. How I felt yesterday, even how I felt today, there’s no worry about that.”

Lock’s confidence bodes well for the Giants; it sounds like he will be ready to step in should Jones need to step off the field for any reason.

Entering his fifth season in the NFL, Lock has seen his share of receivers. As such, he was asked about his take on Malik Nabers and what he brings to the table.

“Very impressive,” Lock said. “He’s going to be a game changer the first day he steps out there. People are going to have to worry about him, teams are going to have to worry about him. That’s going to help everybody on this team. He’s been impressive.”

Nabers will get his chance to show what he can do, and by all accounts, it sounds like fans are going to be pleased with his play. He’s certainly getting high praise from a variety of places and it will be exciting to see what he does when the season starts in a few weeks.
