With the New York Giants’ quarterback situation changing by the day, head coach Brian Daboll revealed that Daniel Jones is likely to start when the Giants visit the Houston Texans next Saturday afternoon.
Daboll said the plan is for Daniel Jones to play in this week’s preseason game.

It will be Jones’ first live game action since tearing his ACL in Las Vegas last November 5.
“I have an idea right now, but I want to go through these three practices (including full pads Monday and Tuesday),” Daboll said. “We’ll talk about it as a coaching staff as the week goes on and end up talking with the players. I do envision Daniel playing if everything is… trainers, practices, all those type of things. The plan is to play him.”
Daboll said he would give the starters extra work in practice this week in preparation for the game. Center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) is back practicing and right tackle Evan Neal came off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Sunday.
Tight ends Lawrence Cager and Jack Stoll have also been cleared to resume practicing.
As for quarterback depth, with the injury to primary backup Drew Lock, Daboll said there was no plan to add another quarterback at the moment.
Tommy DeVito moves up to the No. 2 role and Tyree Jackson — who is in camp as a tight end — will be the emergency quarterback. Jackson was a quarterback in college at the University of Buffalo.
“He has played quarterback,” Daboll said. “If he had to go in, he knows our system, taking snaps. I mean, albeit he’s been a tight end the last couple years. But he’ll take some quarterback center exchange out here. But I don’t envision playing him unless something happens.”
