Nashville Soccer Club announced Thursday that that Predators all-time leading scorer Filip Forsberg along with two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo have joined the team’s ownership group. Antetokounmpo’s brothers Thanasis, Kostas and Alex also joined the ownership group.
The specific amount of investment was not disclosed in the release.
“My father was a professional soccer player, and it was the first sport I fell in love with in Greece,” Giannis said in the release. “I’ve always had the dream of owning a soccer team. When my brothers and I explored Nashville SC, we knew it was a team and a city that we wanted to get involved with. I couldn’t be more excited to join the Boys in Gold, and can’t wait to come to a match at GEODIS Park soon!”
Forsberg is a former NHL first round pick while all of the Antetokounmpos play professional basketball in some capacity worldwide. Nashville SC came out with a video to go along with the announcement that featured the Antetokounmpo brothers getting their own jerseys.
Other NBA stars to purchase ownership stakes in MLS teams include Kevin Durant’s 5% stake in the Philadelphia Union and James Harden’s 5% ownership of the Houston Dynamo FC.
