Flies can be a persistent nuisance in homes, especially during the warm weather Ireland has been enjoying in recent months.
The constant buzzing, incessant landing and the potential health risks they pose can quickly cause frustration. Fortunately there are a number of items that can effectively tackle the intruders.
One Aldi shopper has hailed her “best purchase of the year” which has completely rid her home of flies. Posting on social media, Dubliner Ann explained that “flies were driving her crazy” before she bought the product.
She wrote to Aldi: “Best purchase of the year! Flies were driving me crazy but wanted an open door, so easy to install and house is fly free.”

An Aldi spokesperson replied: “We only deliver the very best!”
She shared a picture of the item in question which is The Zero In Magnetic Door Curtain - and it retails for just €5.99.
Its online description reads: “Keep pesky insects outside of your home where they belong with this Zero In Magnetic Fly Curtain. This easy-to-install doorway curtain fits most doors and doesn't require any special tools to be installed. Let the fresh air in and keep the flying insects out with ease!”
The product’s features include:
- Lets fresh air in and keeps insects out
- Easy to install
- Fits doors up to 90 x 210cm (approx.)
- Magnetic snap shut closure
- No special tools required
It has received a number of positive reviews online, with one Aldi shopper writing: “Purchased for my mother as she loved the one she had last year so much she wanted another one for another door.”
Another said: “My garden door is wider than most and taller yet this curtain fitted across with room to spare! I even had to tuck it up a bit as it was a bit long! Magnets work very well and this has stopped the flies! I can enjoy the door open without flies or nasty bug catching tape hanging everywhere now! Fantastic buy!”
Someone else wrote: “Bought this 4 weeks ago and has been a godsend with this heat and keeping all the flies / bugs out. It was so easy to put up, so many tacks and sticky velcro strips, magnets hold together really well and snap back together when you walk through it. I am hoping to get another couple of these for future, just in case anything happens to the one that up now. Just my luck i wouldn't be able to get hold of them again. And at a bargain price too!”
