Get into the match-ready mood with these nutritious ingredients for the cricket season

With the cricket season just around the corner, the air is thick with excitement. Irrespective of which side you support, the one thing that will bind us through this season, besides the love of the game, is food!

As the trio of cricket, camaraderie, and celebration converge, cravings will pop in, and food will be on everyone’s mind. Whether you are hosting a match screening for your friends and family at home or lounging by yourself on the couch to watch the games, you would want to serve and eat only the most enjoyable meals.

As a food psychologist, I can tell you that what you eat can significantly impact your mood and stress levels, especially during those intense World Cup matches

Here is a checklist of some nutritious ingredients, across three categories that you could consider for enhancing your ‘world cup diet’ and overall match experience.

Veggies, pulses & fruits

Mushrooms are like the superstars of the fungi world. Packed with vitamins and minerals, they are known to keep your body feeling its best. Incorporating mushrooms into your diet can help you have a better outlook as well as combat feelings of gloom.

Chickpeas are best if you’re trying to avoid binge eating during a match. An excellent source of plant-based protein, fiber, and complex carbohydrates, they sustain energy and maintain a feeling of fullness.

Creamy avocado is packed with healthy fats which provide you with the energy to help keep your nervous system functioning well. Its creamy and indulgent texture also makes it a delicious addition to any diet, providing sustained energy and overall well-being.

Poultry, fish & meat Chicken has protein that can help your body stack up the strength it needs to cheer loud! And with some of this protein power by your side, there’s no way your strength will chicken-out on you!

Eggs can crack open plenty of doors in your body to help you stay energized. They are known to keep your blood sugar in place which helps maintain overall energy levels.

Tuna is rich in vitamins, like B6 and B12, which helps your nervous system stay sharp and level-headed, especially while watching those intense nerve-wracking cricket matches.

Seeds & grains

Quinoa is a tiny grain that can really be a protein powerhouse for you. Packed with all the essential amino acids, these messengers help your brain chat with itself, keeping you ready for the match.

Flax and sesame seeds, the real pocket-sized dynamites, are a rich source of omega-3, magnesium and zinc. While the seeds won’t take up much space in your stomach, they are known to contribute towards your brain’s well-being.

Cashews, Walnuts & Almonds are literal peacekeepers for your brain. A rich source of magnesium, they help your nervous system take a deep breath and unwind.

Like Cricket is considered a religion in India, the human body is dubbed as a temple. To keep both in top form, balance your essential nutrients with these mood-boosting ingredients. So, take your pick from the above, and pair them with tasty sauces like mayo, barbecue, or mustard to dole out some delicious dishes, which will make your mind, body, and soul feel good. Enjoy the World Cup season with food that not only tastes great but also keeps you feeling great!
