We are faced with the prospect of the first national state war in Europe since the 40s. We are on the brink of a cost of living crisis and barely flatlining out of the worst pandemic in a century.
And Boris Johnson? He is preparing to be interviewed by Scotland Yard police officers over boozed-up, rule-breaking lockdown parties in Downing Street.
The sheer shame of a Prime Minister being questioned by the police over breaking the laws he set for the rest of us would make lesser mortals wish for an open manhole to fall into.
But brass-necked BoJo ploughs on thinking that his gravity-defying luck can get him through.
We have a compromised Prime Minister, a national disgrace and an international clown, who cannot deal with the issues that really matter because he is too focused on saving his own skin.
It may be that the crisis in Ukraine will distract attention from Johnson’s travails for a while, or, as he hopes, the public become bored of the drip, drip of revelations about his Downing Street party culture.
But Johnson cannot outrun his fate. He is a finished Prime Minister who has neither the authority or the morality to lead the country.
For the sake of us all, it is time to sweep him away and get some grown-ups into the room.
