Gervonta Davis had the last laugh in his rivalry with Rolando Romero as he scored a one-punch knockout in the sixth round to remain undefeated.
Romero walked straight onto the left hand of 'Tank' with just over 30 seconds left in the sixth round. He was sent crashing face-first to the canvas and did get back to his feet to beat the count, but the referee David Fields waved off the fight.
Davis, who made the third defence of his WBA lightweight title with the win, was not having it all his way in the lead up to the knockout. Romero was out-landing the champion and was up by one round on judge Kevin Morgan's scorecard at the time of the stoppage.
The two engaged in an intense rivalry before the fight that escalated in Davis pushing Romero off the stage at their pre-fight press conference. Davis taunted Romero after the knockout by celebrating and getting in his opponent's face as their bad blood still lives on.

Davis was surprised by his fight-winning punch, stating: “The crazy thing is that I didn’t even throw it that hard. He just ran into it. He just ran into it. Something like when Manny Pacquiao got caught. I didn’t even throw it that hard and he’s the one who ran into it, when he was talking that it was going to be me.”
“He was strong for sure but there were a couple shots that I was getting warmed up with and he caught me and I was like, ‘I can’t sit with him just yet,’” said Davis. “I know when to take it to my opponents and when to chill out. There was someone in the crowd and they were telling me to press forward and I was like, not yet. I got to loosen him up a little more.”
Romero pushed for a rematch with Davis after the loss and insisted that he was winning the fight until the knockout. “I want Gervonta Davis again. I was winning that f****ng fight and I just got hit with a clean shot, that's that," he said.
"I exposed his a** and everybody knows it. I got caught with a good shot, that's all. [In a rematch] I wouldn't jump into a shot like that. I had him running like a b**** the entire fight. He got hurt multiple times. He ran around and was terrified of me, I doubt he'll take the rematch again."
