Germany striker Everton 'courted extensively' in January could be put up for sale

Everton could revisit the possibility of trying to sign Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug this summer.

According to Bild (as per Sport Witness), the German club’s current €38m arrears signals that their star man is likely to be moved on at the end of the season in order to raise vital funds.

Füllkrug has enjoyed an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga with 16 goals in 26 games for Bremen and has also weighed in with six assists. The 30-year-old has also scored three times for Germany in his last two appearances, during the international break.

The report claims that Bremen need to raise "significant earnings" from player sales and Füllkrug is the "logical candidate" given his rising stock. Everton are also said to have "courted him intensively" during the January transfer window.

At the moment, the Blues are the only club reportedly in the frame, but they would need to stump up a figure north of €20m to obtain Füllkrug's services.

Everton failed to sign any players during a winter transfer window that saw previous first-team manager Frank Lampard removed from his post and replaced by Sean Dyche.

The former Burnley boss has underpinned an upturn in results, with three wins and two draws from his first eight matches in the dugout, moving the Blues out of the relegation zone as a consequence.

But Everton remain the Premier League's joint-lowest scorers, and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling for fitness since August, Dyche will be expected to bring his own forwards into Finch Farm next season. And despite being a rumoured target of his predecessor Lampard, Füllkrug's reported availability and reasonable transfer fee could make him a perfect fit for Dyche next season.
