Niclas Füllkrug is ready for Germany to back up their "arrogance" by displaying why they are a team that deserves to go far in Euro 2024 on home soil.
Scotland lie in wait as they get the tournament underway at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Friday night.
And the world will be watching expecting Germany to end their three game record of struggling in the opening game of recent showpiece events.
Füllkrug has watched back Scotland's friendly draw against Finland and admits he was surprised by what he witnessed. Even so, he knows their "intense" style of play will need to be stopped.
But the 31-year-old is confident that the hosts, who are buoyed by the fact legendary midfielder, Toni Kroos, has come out of international retirement to play his part in the team, can register that all-important victory to get their campaign off to a flyer.
"We’ve prepared a bit for the Scotland game, we’ve tried to adapt a few things for a specific opponent," the Borussia Dortmund striker said.
"We tried to put a few interesting processes in place against Greece in our last game that will prepare us for Scotland. And I’m excited to see how the coaches will prepare us for Friday night.
"I saw Scotland’s last game and they performed a little differently to what I expected. They have an intense style of play and they play aggressive football. I think we all know that. But they also started very high and pressed high.
"Against us, in phases I expect them to drop a bit deeper. But we have a few more days to prepare for that. And hopefully in this game it will mainly be our performance that counts and not our opponents’. We don’t want to just look at who we’re playing against.
"The energy and attention should all be with us. This self-confidence - or, okay I’ll say it, certain arrogance we have - we want to have that. Because we’re entitled to it. We have quality in the squad and we want to show it.
"That belongs to a team who wants to go far in a tournament. We have to take the intensity out of the Scotland team’s game. When they attack with purpose, they want to get into a finishing position very quickly. They want to cross balls into the box so it’s important we stop that. We can’t let their dynamism develop in the game.
"We have to enjoy possession and we now have a master at that in Toni Kroos. That gives us a completely different dimension and it will allow us to exert pressure on Scotland."
