German Doner Kebab set to open up new Scottish branches in Glasgow and Aberdeen

German Doner Kebab is set to expand by opening up several new branches across the UK, with Aberdeen and Glasgow among the planned locations for new restaurants.

The Glasgow-based restaurant chain revealed the ambitious expansion plans as they look to open up 78 new branches and create almost 3,000 jobs.

It comes after the chain recently opened up 39 new branches during the pandemic last year, reports Hull Live.

Following a significant 2021, which seen an increase in overall sales and same store sales, the fast-casual chain looks to continue their rapid expansion both in the UK and internationally.

Bosses said the new growth plan will take the brand to Leeds, Brighton, Portsmouth, Great Yarmouth, Aberdeen, Stoke and include additional sites in London and Glasgow.

The expansion plans follow the fast-casual chain's reported 75 per cent jump in total sales as it was buoyed from by trade from new sites.

German Doner Kebab also reported a 27% in same store sales in 2021 compared with the previous year.

Imran Sayeed, chief executive officer for the brand, said: "We have been extremely agile during the Pandemic, listening to the needs of our customers and responding to the huge demand for our game-changing kebabs.

"This has enabled us to build greater levels of brand awareness and customer loyalty as we bring the German Doner Kebab experience to more cities and towns throughout the UK."

The food company - which currently employs around 3,500 over the UK - has said that the expansion will see them add another 2,900 workers this year.

German Doner Kebab is also looking to continue their global expansion with a development pipeline of 350 sites it hopes to open over the next seven years.

Included in the development plans will be a further 11 North American openings this year as well as its first site in Saudi Arabia - adding to their current 80 restaurants across the world.

It follows after they opened up their first ever American branch in New Jersey in 2020 and new locations in Canada and Surrey in 2021.

Mr Sayeed added: "We have developed strong franchise relationships in strategic global locations and we are now working closely with our partners to take forward development plans and expand our reach into new regions."
