Georgia’s leading returning rusher out after undergoing surgery

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart updated the status of Georgia running back Roderick Robinson ahead of the Dawgs’ season opener. Robinson, who has been dealing with turf toe, recently underwent surgery on his toe.

Robinson is Georgia’s leading returning rusher from the 2023 season. However, he rushed for just 196 yards on 26 carries and score two touchdowns last season. Smart considers Robinson to be week-to-week after his surgery, but it is extremely unlikely that he will play against the Clemson Tigers.

Georgia lost its two leading rushers in Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards to the NFL. The Bulldogs also may be without Florida transfer Trevor Etienne. Etienne, who could be facing a suspension following his offseason arrest. Kirby Smart refuses to comment on Etienne’s status and will not discuss suspensions with the media.

Georgia’s running back depth chart is a major concern for the Bulldogs in the season opener. Georgia could be without its project top running back in Etienne and its No. 2 in Robinson. The Bulldogs would then turn to Branson Robinson, who has returned after missing the 2023 season with a patella tendon injury. After Robinson, Georgia is expected to feature Cash Jones and true freshman Nate Frazier.
