The Georgia Bulldogs are expected to be one of the best teams in the country during the 2024 college football season. In fact, Sporting News’ Bill Bender projects that Georgia will advance to the national championship game.
Bender has Georgia as his No. 1 seed in the expanded College Football Playoff. This means that Georgia would win the SEC and get a bye in the first round of the playoff. Bender predicts that four SEC teams will make the playoff: Texas, Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss.
Sporting News has Georgia facing the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia. The Dawgs best the Crimson Tide, who are ranked as the No. 8 seed, in the quarterfinal of the playoff to advance to the next round.
Georgia’s semifinal match-up is against No. 5 Texas, who Georgia presumably beat in the SEC championship. “Imagine if Georgia really does have to go through second (and possibly third) games with Alabama and Texas again just to get to a championship game,” said Bender. “That is a potential flaw in this process.”
Georgia is scheduled to play regular season games against both Texas and Alabama this fall, so if UGA advances to the SEC championship, then Georgia could play Texas or Alabama a third time in the playoff.
Bender predicts that Georgia will play against Ohio State in the national championship game, which will be in Atlanta. In this scenario Georgia would play in four games in Atlanta this season. Bender does not specify who he thinks will win the national title.
