Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker is one of the players the Jacksonville Jaguars are heavily considering taking with the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Others believed to be under consideration include Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu, and possibly Alabama offensive lineman, Evan Neal.
Walker sat down with Yahoo Sports’ NFL draft analyst Eric Edholm on Sunday where he discussed the possibility of being the first player to hear his name called on Thursday.
“Me personally, I do think I have a shot at being the first pick overall, but it’s the situation like no one knows where they’ll end up,” Walker said, “Just because you don’t know what people upstairs, GM’s think, and things like that. A coach may like you a lot more than the GM may like you. So you’ll never really know how it’s going to play out, so I just leave it all in God’s hands.”
Walker has a great mentality heading into Thursday’s draft even with all the uncertainty swirling around him.
He’s in great contention to be the No. 1 pick mainly due to his potential and the showcase he put on at the NFL scouting combine. However, one concern teams and fans have is his lack of production. He only tallied 33 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, and a fumble recovery.
Jaguars fans can find out on Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT who the team ultimately selects with the first overall pick.
